The aim of the organisation is to improve the quality of life of people living in Kerrier and the immediate surrounding area who have a serious sight loss.
The organisation works closely with Social Services Sensory Loss Team who refer most of our clients and who are our main funding source.
The organisation runs three clubs each week in the form of specialised Day Care Centres. Transport is arranged for visually impaired members to attend for the day, a light lunch is provided and trained and friendly volunteers care for the members.
The members are encouraged to make new friends who have similar problems caused by their sight loss and are able to take part in such activities as knitting, cane work, weaving etc. We provide regular entertainment and outings, as well as shopping facilities.
The Co-ordinator or her assistant are always present to give information, support and advice on how members can cope with serious sight loss and daily living skills and advice on the aids available.
For many members the club day is the highlight of their week
The Assistant Co-ordinator also runs a thriving indoor bowls club for visually impaired people, which is enjoyed by over thirty members of all ages.
People are surprised as to how adept our clients can become at this sport.
A further service offered by the organisation is a befriending scheme where volunteers regularly visit visually impaired people in their own homes and take them shopping or for a walk, help them with correspondence or hobbies or just visit for a friendly chat.
